John AudiaandRobert Marko d043c78bb5 dnsmasq: migrate dhcpv4/dhcpv6 default on upgrade 
Commit 6f30f08d0e ("dnsmasq: add fallback for default dhcpv4/dhcpv6
values") changed dnsmasq.init to default the 'dhcpv4'/'dhcpv6' UCI
options to 'disabled' when a 'config dhcp' section leaves them unset:

  -	config_get dhcpv4 "$cfg" dhcpv4
  -	config_get dhcpv6 "$cfg" dhcpv6
  +	config_get dhcpv4 "$cfg" dhcpv4 disabled
  +	config_get dhcpv6 "$cfg" dhcpv6 disabled

The intent was to match odhcpd, which already treats an unset value
as disabled, so both backends behave the same way for newly created
configs. Its companion commit 85767ac8fe added explicit
'option dhcpv4/dhcpv6 server' lines to the stock 'lan' section in the
packaged dhcp.conf template, which covers fresh installs.

Neither commit accounts for configs that predate the change. Before
it, an unset dhcpv4/dhcpv6 option was implicitly treated as enabled,
so it was common (and still is, on any router upgraded from before
this landed) to have 'config dhcp' sections for additional
interfaces/VLANs with no explicit dhcpv4/dhcpv6 option at all. After
the change, dnsmasq.init silently skips '--dhcp-range' for every one
of those sections:

	if [ "$dhcpv4" != "disabled" ]; then
		...
	fi

The result: any interface whose dhcp section never needed the option
before stops handing out leases entirely, with nothing logged beyond
a normal dnsmasq startup, while sections that happen to already carry
an explicit 'server' value keep working. On a router with several
VLANs this looks exactly like "DHCP only works on one interface."

Fix by shipping a one-time /etc/uci-defaults migration, matching the
existing 50-dnsmasq-migrate-resolv-conf-auto.sh /
50-dnsmasq-migrate-ipset.sh pattern in this package: for every
'config dhcp' section, if dhcpv4/dhcpv6 is unset, explicitly set it
to 'server', preserving the pre-6f30f08d0e behavior for existing
configs. Sections that already set the option (or set 'disabled'
deliberately) are left untouched, and sections that never reach the
check (e.g. 'wan' with 'option ignore 1') are unaffected.

John AudiaandRobert Marko d32d9ec726 x86/64: 6.12: 6.18: enable performance related options 
Enable Turbo Boost Max 3.0 (INTEL_TURBO_MAX_3) to allow the kernel
scheduler to utilize preferred cores on modern Intel CPUs. This has
no effect on AMD systems.

Enable core scheduling (SCHED_CORE) to provide safer SMT task
placement and better isolation. While it can reduce peak throughput
slightly, it improves scheduling correctness on heterogeneous cores
and works across both Intel and AMD.

Enable the accelerated GHASH implementation using the CLMUL instruction
(CRYPTO_GHASH_CLMUL_NI_INTEL). This provides substantial performance
improvements for AES-GCM workloads (e.g. TLS, IPsec, OpenVPN) on CPUs
with the pclmulqdq instruction. Supported on both modern Intel and AMD
processors; falls back gracefully on older CPUs.

Run-tested twice, once with the 6.12 series and again with the 6.18.

Add KERNEL_NR_CPUS option in Global build settings → Kernel build
options, allowing users to set maximum CPU count (2-512) for the image.

Defaults:
- x86_64: 512 CPUs (backward compatible)
- x86: 8 CPUs (fix broken single-CPU default)

Per-CPU data structures consume ~100-200KB each.
On a 4-core system configured to NR_CPUS=4, this frees approx 76 MB
of RAM: (512 - 4) × 150 KB = ~76 MB

Note: CONFIG_NR_CPUS_RANGE_{BEGIN,END}= and CONFIG_NR_CPUS_DEFAULT= are
set by the build system and will default to 2/512/64 per arch/x86/Kconfig
These are harmless metadata and don't affect memory allocation.

These mitigations are low-overhead, upstream-supported hardening options
that only activate on CPUs affected by their respective vulnerabilities.
Enabling them provides consistent, defense-in-depth coverage across Intel
and AMD systems without impacting unaffected hardware.

Detailed list:
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_SRSO to guard against known a vulnerability found on
  AMD processors (Zen generations 1-4) for sure, maybe others. This is
  tracked under CVE-2023-20569.
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_ITS to guard against a bug in BPU on some Intel CPUs
  that may allow Spectre V2 style attacks. We never enabled this option
  (and its dependencies).
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_SRBDS to guard against Special Register Buffer Data
  Sampling on affected Intel CPUs (CVE-2020-0543), preventing cross-core
  leakage of RDRAND/RDSEED/EGETKEY values.
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_SLS to guard against Spectre-v4 gadgets on x86 by
  inserting speculation barriers around RET/JMP/CALL sites when required
  by CPU/microcode state.
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_CALL_DEPTH_TRACKING to guard against speculative
  call-stack underflow on x86 by enabling hardware-assisted depth
  tracking where supported, reducing exposure to RET-based misprediction
  attacks.
- CONFIG_MITIGATION_UNRET_ENTRY to guard against RET-based speculation
  attacks on x86 by replacing vulnerable function returns in kernel
  entry paths with UNRET sequences when required by CPU/microcode state.

Any ftpd package such as vsftpd or atftpd (are there others?) should
create their own unprivileged user. Both of the aforementioned
packages do not even use this ftp user and run as root. That should be

John AudiaandRobert Marko 92ff3dfd84 x86: switch from CONFIG_HZ_PERIODIC to CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE 
Running with CONFIG_HZ_PERIODIC=y keeps the scheduler tick running
continuously, which produces higher jitter and lower power efficiency.
In contrast, CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE=y (the upstream default) stops the tick
only when the CPU is idle, giving lower idle power and normal runtime
jitter.

An Intel N150-based router/firewall was tested using two kernel builds:
one with CONFIG_HZ_PERIODIC=y, and one with CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE=y. Power
consumption was measured while the system was essentially idle (no
meaningful traffic). The CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE=y build consistently used
less power.

Details: The two power-measurement methods were:

 1. PkgWatt from turbostat (software)
 2. Wall-power measurement using a Kill-A-Watt (hardware)

The test began by zeroing the Kill-A-Watt and simultaneously running:
turbostat --quiet --Summary --interval 10 --show Busy%,PkgWatt

The test duration was defined by the time required for the Kill-A-Watt
to accumulate 0.005 kWh, after which the average wattage was calculated.

Wall-power measurements show a 470 mW (3.77%) reduction under
CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE=y.
